Our
Story

1998

Merlin built his first wean to finish confinements for Tri-Oak. Wanting to apply his own manure, plus have a bigger tractor for his farm operation, he purchased his first honey wagon. The next year he bartered with another hog producer to pump out his barns, in exchange for wiring Merlin's new house. That was the beginning of doing custom work for others – Over the next 10 years, as more and more barns were built in the area, the demand for his pumping services kept growing.

2008

At this point in time Merlin's son, Ryan had just graduated from WIU and came back to the farm full-time. He was heavily involved in the hog operation and he also had an interest in the pumping side of the business. So, to work they went!

There were three honey wagons and five trucks running 24 hours a day to keep up with the demand.. After doing that for two years, they both agreed that something had to change in order for them to be more efficient and meet the growing demand..

Several customers had been asking about the dragline system to reduce compaction, which made sense and intrigued the father/son duo. So,  in 2010, it was decided to trade in the honey wagons for a dragline system. That next year, more gallons were pumped with that one dragline, on one shift, than the 3 wagons working 24 hours a day!

2011

McClure Custom Pumping was officially formed.

TODAY

McClure Custom Pumping is currently running four dragline crews. Each crew pulls coulter till plows, which allows applying in any condition possible, whether it be no-till or conventional. MCP also has one tractor and one honey wagon for emergencies and small jobs – truly ready for anything!

MCP’s main area of application is West Central Illinois, but the team has gone as far as East as Bloomington, Illinois and as far south as Springfield, Illinois.

The trucking side of McClure Custom Pumping has expanded to 10 semi-trucks with boom tankers, plus a frac tank. The team also has access to more trucks for large and long-haul jobs. While supporting their own crews, MCP also hauls for many other applicators across several states.

Merlin and Ryan are always striving to provide precise, professional application of manure to their customer's fields, because as farmers themselves, they understand the importance of that fertilizer!
